PENGUJIAN KESETIAAN SEMUT:ANTARA TEMAN DAN MAKANAN (ANT’S LOYALTY TEST: BETWEEN MATE AND MEAT)

Abstract

Ants are known as hard-working and loyal animal. This common assumption comes
by seeing ants’ life as colony which find food together. The purpose of this study was to find
out the level of ants’ loyalty—or caring—to the others which in difficult (being trapped), while
there were some food beside the trap in the same time.Direct observation of behavior of 30
ants (Camponotus pennsylvanicus) in SMA Negeri 1 Medan on February 24, 2019, at 1.30 –
4 PM. There were two independent variables—number of trapped ants and kind of food—and
a control variable, which is the duration of research time (seven minutes).The more ants was
trapped, the more ants tried to help, in spite of food around them. This is caused by increasing
pheromones emitted by trapped ants.Ants are loyal animal.
