Abstract

Teenage era for a girl, is the moment when they start to pay attention to their body
and their appearance. Looking in the mirror is an important thing for them to look at their
appearance. There’s some assumptions in the society about the difference between science
and social students. This research will cover whether there is a significant differences of the
intensity of science and social students at looking in the mirror and also the description about
the looking in the mirror activity between science and social student. This research was done
at SMA 5 Semarang and the subject of this research consisted of 78 girls from science class
and 62 girls from social class that were randomly picked. The research method that were done
was a questionnaire, interview and documentation. The questionnaire data then were
analyzed using the χ2 test. After that, the data was served as pie chart. The data from interview
and documentation was analyzed through a qualitative descriptive test and served also in a
pie chart. The result of this research were 1) There’s no significant difference between science
and social students in terms of looking in the mirror, looking in the mirror at school, mirror
that were used, time of looking in the mirror, the reason of looking in the mirror and the
frequency of looking in the mirror. 2) Most of students like to looking in the mirror, as a daily
activity even at school. Mirror that were used mostly the one that is provided in the classroom
or using their phone screen . Their favorite time to look in the mirror was in the break time,
in the morning before they’re going to school and also when there’s a mean time. Their reason
of looking in the mirror is because it is already become a routine. Their frequencies of looking
in the mirror mostly 5 times a day and followed by 10 times a day. There’s only a few student
that has a higher frequency on looking in the mirror.
