Abstract

Bags are the main objects students must carry to school to accommodate
textbooks, stationery, sports clothes, and other objects. The number of objects carried
by students influences the burden of bags carried. This study aims to determine
differences in bag loads between male and female students as well as the factors
causing differences in bag loads. This type of research is a survey research with data
collection methods carried out by distributing questionnaires and direct observation
by weighing bag loads. As a guideline in the study, the authors divide into three ranges
of bag loads, namely 0 – 2 kg, 3 – 4 kg, and 5 – 6 kg. The results showed that female
students carried heavier bag loads compared to male students in which of the three
groups of bag load ranges, showing that 50% of male students from all total male
students carried bags with lighter loads ie 0 - 2 kg, compared to the bag load carried
by female students from all three ranges, only 22.3% of female students carry bag loads
0 - 2 kg, while 51.5% of students carry bag loads of 3-4 kg, and the remaining 26 , 2%
carry bag loads with a range of 5-6 kg. Factors that cause differences in bag loads
between male and female students are due to the number of bags and items carried. In
addition, Monday is the day with the heaviest bag load compared to other days
