Abstract

Color is a fundamental aspect of human beings. Color also can affect one's memory
performance, especially students who have an obligation to learn. Learning that in fact relies
on memory certainly requires strategy in the process. One strategy that can be used is the use
of text colors in writing. This study aims to determine the effect of using black, red and blue in
writing material to help the process of remembering. The study was conducted in February with
fifteen respondents in the Trensains Muhammadiyah Senior High School who have a visual
learning style. Respondents were taken by purposive sampling. The drawn respondents
characterized with visual learning styles. The research data were obtained using slide media.
The study included the independent variables namely red, blue, and black, and the dependent
variable is the memory performance of each individual who uses visual learning styles. The
results of this study obtained an average of each color, which is 4.47 for red, 4.01 for blue, and
3.05 for black. These results indicate that the use of red can be used in helping the process of
remembering when compared to blue which has a calm nature and black color that is often
used so that it looks normally captured by the eye. While the red color is focused on attention,
so the eyes are more sensitive to capture material so that the impulses reach the brain quicker.
